The Peroni Collection – Italian Style on the Silver Screen
A new exhibition on Italian Cinema is to launch at Proud Chelsea on Wednesday 9th March.

A major collection of rare images depicting the influence of Italian style in film will be unveiled at an exhibition at Proud Chelsea, launching with a private viewing on Tuesday 8th March.

The exhibition has been curated by celebrated top photographer Rankin and Italian fashion writer, film expert and cultural commentator Anna Battista in conjunction with Peroni Nastro Azzurro. The exhibition will run from Wednesday 9th March at Proud Chelsea and from there will tour another four UK cities , until Saturday 2nd April where it finishes in Bristol.

The Peroni Collection – Italian Style on the Silver Screen explores the relationship between Italian fashion design and its enduring influence on film making, image making and characterisation. The exhibition will feature rare and never seen before images and costumes from the cinematic world.

The Peroni Collection references not only classic Italian films like Ladri di Biciclette and Bellissima, but also more contemporary titles (including American Psycho and Casino Royale). The images, taken from classic Italian film and fashion archives from around the world, showcase the beauty of Italian fashion on celluloid.

Jason Maling at Peroni Nastro Azzurro commented:
“Peroni Nastro Azzurro is proud to be co-curator of such an important exhibition in the UK. Italian style is a meeting of understated beauty and personality, sophistication and practicality, craftsmanship and flair – sentiments that we at Peroni Nastro Azzurro share. Through the selection of stunning images, this exhibition will give viewers a rich and colourful snapshot of Italian style and grace – as it has been captured on film”.

The collection has been selected from archives which include the British Film Institute, The Ferragamo Museum, the renowned Tirelli Tailoring House and the Film School, Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, and brings together several titles to tell the story of Italian style in celluloid from the past half-century of film making.

The Peroni Collection – Italian Style on the Silver Screen curator and iconic photographer Rankin comments:
“The influence that Italian film has had on me is significant. Cinema Paradiso is without question, my favourite film of all time and has had a profound impact on my life both personally and professionally. The themes and inherent style within the story never fail to move me just as much as they did the first time, and as a piece of work, it has inspired me to move into film as well as photography. It is inspiring to be part of this exhibition and solidify my connection to a genre which is so important to me”
